I love handmade lampshades! While they perform an important function in shading the light bulb and diffusing light, they are also an attractive decorative feature in a room. In a lot of houses, a lamp is off for longer than it is on, therefore it is important that it looks good as well as being purely functional. In our house, we have lampshades that I've crocheted, beaded - and even made from ruffled recycled plastic bags. Needless to say, some projects were more successful than others - as my memory of the smell of very warm bits of plastic bags reminds me!
